“It has been a bit stop-start for Charlie since he joined us, but he may be able to play soon in an Under-21 match and if we can get some games into him, then hopefully he will be in the first-team set-up in two or three weeks. Anyone who watches training can see that he is technically very good and I am sure he will score goals at this level. I have no doubt about that. Once he scores one goal I think that he will go on to get a lot more for us.”
Wimbledon’s players have certainly clocked up the miles recently with away trips to Morecambe and Hartlepool during the past week and some members of the squad were unable to attend training today after a crash on the M25 in Kent caused severe delays.
However, Simon added that there will be no excuses for Oxford on Saturday as there will have been enough time to prepare the players.
“Some of the players never got in until 6.00 am on Wednesday morning and today was all about getting good food and protein into them, resting their bodies, and counting how many are ready to go again on Saturday,” said Simon. “Weak people look for excuses and the mentally strong just get on with it. We do not make excuses; we have had sufficient recovery now. We will go again in training tomorrow and we will set our team up for the game on Saturday. We will fully approach it in the manner of attempting to get the three points.”
