Watch the Womble's victory on home turf
The annual AFC Wimbledon Charity Mascot race has so far raised £400 for charity and it had the added bonus of an impressive win for Haydon the Womble.
.Mascot RaceHaydon made the most of home advantage by scampering clear of a competitive field to win the Wombles Underground Press (WUP) Cup as part of the Wimbledon Common Stables Open Day. Community Volunteer Clive Yelf, who organised the event, put together a video showing Haydon’s glory run and this can be viewed by clicking on

It was the first time that Haydon has triumphed in a mascot race as he held off the challenges of Debra the Zebra and Macs the Monkey. Haydon claimed his success was all down to his strict training regime.
Haydon said: "My lack of a sprint finish means I'm normally caught in the final third, but a few training runs really paid off!"
