Ladies appoint new manager

Chris Lyons seeks to rebuild club's reputation

AFC Wimbledon Ladies & Girls have appointed Chris Lyons as first-team manager with the long-term aim of revitalising the club’s fortunes.

Following a difficult season in the London and South East Regional Women’s Premier Division, AFC Wimbledon Ladies & Girls Chairman Dennis Lowndes believes that Chris is the right man to take the Dons forward.

Dennis said: “Since my recent announcement regarding the departure of our ladies manager, I have been searching for a new manager that can lead the club’s desire to regenerate the team. Our mission has always been, and still is, to create a team at the top level of the game in the next five years.

“I am delighted to announce that this starts with the managerial appointment of Chris. Chris will head up a very professional set-up at the club. He holds the UEFA B licence and will bring with him a wealth of knowledge and experience of the women’s game.”

, Chris (pictured above) said: “I'm looking forward to the challenge and responsibility of rebuilding the club. When Dennis and I spoke about the regeneration plans I was very attracted to just how much effort the club is prepared to put in to move forward.AFC Wimbledon Ladies & Girls websiteSpeaking to the

“It was ten years ago when AFC Wimbledon Ladies were playing at the top levels of the game, and the last few years has seen a sad decline for a proud club. It has a successful youth set up with dedicated coaches, along with very successful U-18 and development teams. All this will help us to produce players that will eventually play for the senior side.”

“The club is recruiting new players to strengthen all teams in the senior and youth set up, including both the first and development squads, with trials held in May and June, and pre-season commencing for the senior squads in July. Although the first-team are looking to hear from players with experience, we will also welcome developing players who believe they have the ability and potential to compete at a higher level.”
