Neal says Dons deserved win

Wimbledon manager on today's Plymouth victory

Neal Ardley said his side produced one of their best performances of the season to beat Plymouth Argyle at Home Park today.

The Dons came from behind to earn victory against a side that were pushing for the play-offs just a few weeks ago and Neal was delighted with his players.

Speaking to Dons Player, Neal Ardley said: “We knew that we needed to pick up points from our games over the Easter period. We’ve done it the hard way by drawing at home and winning at Plymouth, but I felt that we were full value for the win today. Everything I asked of the players they gave me and we could have won by more.

“Given the importance of the game, to put in a performance like that after going one goal behind made it one of our better performances of the season.”

Wimbledon are certainly in line to finish the season strongly and Neal praised his players for trusting the training programme implemented by the management team.

“From day one of pre-season I’ve kept telling the boys that we expected them to be fitter at the end of the campaign than ever before,” Neal added. “We’ve given the players the right recovery and time away from the place, but we train them hard and right on the clock every time that they’re in training.

“The players have trusted us on this and a lot of the boys have said that it’s the freshest they have felt at this stage of the season. In the second-half of games we’ve been finishing stronger than the opposition.”

Dons Player subscribers can watch the video interview with Neal Ardley tonight and the thoughts of match-winner Kwesi Appiah will feature on our premium channel tomorrow.
