Squad named for cup tie

Preview of tonight's London Senior Cup semi-final

Shaun North has challenged his young squad to make the most of a “fantastic opportunity” in tonight’s London Senior Cup tie.

Jim Fenlon (pictured) and Seb Brown will be the only first-team players in Wimbledon’s squad for the semi-final tie at Cray Valley Paper Mills.

But with first-team management watching from the sidelines, it offers the Under-21s another chance to impress.

“We have a young squad out tonight with Seb Brown as the only senior professional,” said Shaun, who joined the Dons as Under-21 Development Coach last summer. “Matches like this are very important for us. We’ve played a lot of friendlies this season against teams from different levels, but there is a certain competitive edge to these games. It’s a fantastic opportunity for the players to show what they can do in front of first-team management and staff.

“We’ve entered three cup competitions this season. One of those was a professional competition and we got beat 4-3 by QPR in a very competitive match. That was disappointing and we also went out of the other competition we were in. We have given ourselves a chance in this one. I went and watched Cray Valley on Saturday so that I could have a look at their pitch and how they play. They try and pass it and though the pitch is a bit bobbly that goes for most pitches at this time of year. We can have no complaints about that and I’m sure it will be an exciting game.”
