Callum seals his return

7 August 2014

Left-back re-signs for AFC Wimbledon

Callum Kennedy today sealed his AFC Wimbledon return by signing on the dotted line for a second time in just over 13 months.

The 24-year-old, who first signed for the Dons on 4 July, 2013, was released in May, but his pre-season displays after recovering from an ankle tendon injury convinced Neal Ardley to reward him with a new contract.

Speaking to Dons Player, Neal Ardley said: “I’ve been very impressed by Callum. We were just helping him out to get fit initially and we had a look at quite a few younger players. We kept a bit in our budget aside for a young defender to join the ranks, but none of them were anywhere near as good as Callum.

“Callum has got fitter in pre-season and he has really impressed me with his performances, particularly in the second-half at Havant & Waterlooville. That was the best I’d seen him play for a long time. Callum knows what he needs to do and where he fell short last time. He’s got the bit between his teeth now and I think I’m going to get a different animal from what I got last season.”

Callum, who won a League 2 Championship medal with Swindon in 2012, will wear the number 17 shirt for AFC Wimbledon.

We will feature a full interview with Callum on Dons Player later on today.
