The Dons from Down Under

28 August 2014

Fans travel thousands of miles to watch the Dons

Though the result did not go Wimbledon’s way against Hartlepool, it was a day to remember for a group of Dons fans after they travelled all the way from Australia to support their team.

Adelaide-based Paul Russell (pictured smiling at the back of the above photograph) and Liam Nolan from Perth were among nine “Down Under Dons” to make the pilgrimage to the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

Paul had attended the away victory at Luton Town a week previously with sons Dylan and Sam and that was his first Wimbledon game since 1991 when his favourite player Alan Cork scored the winner at Coventry.

The Aussie Dons fans described their AFC Wimbledon experience on Saturday as “awesome” and as a regular listener to WDON match commentaries Paul particularly enjoyed meeting Mikey T before the game.
