Dons and Wycombe to pay tribute before FA Cup tie

AFC Wimbledon and Wycombe players will join forces before Sunday’s FA Cup tie to commemorate the spirit of the Christmas Truce football matches in 1914.

All 22 players who start the match will pose together with match officials for a group photograph in celebration of the iconic event that occurred a century ago during the First World War.

During this weekend, clubs playing in the Barclays Premier League, the Sky Bet Championship and the FA Cup will all pay their tributes with mixed team photographs as part of a celebratory event called “A Moment in History”.

The photograph at Adams Park with both sets of players will take place immediately before Sunday’s 2.00 pm kick-off after the traditional Fair Play handshake.

http://www.footballremembers.com/Clubs around the country will upload their photos via social media using the hashtag #FootballRemembers. All photographs will be displayed on a special website at

The photographs kick off ‘Football Remembers Week’. This is a series of Christmas Truce-related events running from Friday, 5 December to Monday, 15 December, and being delivered jointly by the Premier League, The FA and the Football League, in partnership with the British Council.

Academy, Community and Schools programmes connected with clubs around the country are encouraged to take their own mixed team photographs before games this weekend and upload them to social media. Any match of any size and age group can be uploaded. The aim of the website is to act as a moment of national record of football in 2014, a century on from the First World War. The photos will be preserved for future generations in the digital archives of the British Library.
