Dons call on expertise of lifelong fan

The Dons Trust board is pleased to announce that Mick Buckley has accepted an invitation to join the football club board with immediate effect.

Speaking about the qualities that Mick will bring, Dons Trust Board chairman Matthew Breach said: "Our ongoing governance review identified that the efforts being put into the New Stadium project have been stretching the football club board's resources, and an early output of the review recognised that strengthening the board would be sensible at this time.

“With his extensive business experience and knowledge of the club, Mick was the obvious choice. He is a lifelong fan who knows us well. Mick acted as a co-opted member of the DT board last year by filling the casual vacancy that arose from the 2012 election.”

During his year on the DT board, he made a number of valuable contributions across a range of issues including the need to develop a brand strategy and looking at financing opportunities for the new stadium. Mick will work with us to make further progress in both these important areas.”  Mick is someone who I’ve regularly sought advice from on major issues. AFC Wimbledon chief executive Erik Samuelson added: “With the increased workload coming from the hoped-for new stadium, we welcome the appointment of Mick to the board.

Mick Buckley grew up in Wimbledon and has been a supporter since 1974. Professionally, he spent 25 years working in the media/ broadcasting industry, including lengthy spells as MD at Turner Broadcasting and CEO at CNBC Europe. He now has his own coaching/ team building business.
