Wimbledon manager urges players to build on win

Neal Ardley believes that the Dons are capable of finishing the season strongly after they put their barren run behind them at Newport County.

spot in League 2 after a dramatic turnaround at Rodney Parade, but Neal says that his side must build on it with Fleetwood away up next.thWimbledon moved up to 11

Speaking to Dons Player, Neal said: “We cannot pat ourselves on the back because we have to now go away for a tough match at Fleetwood. We’re good enough to finish the season strongly. The last few weeks for all of us have been tough. I’ve suffered from it myself. I’m quite emotional to be fair because I’ve had to search long and hard during the last few weeks. You do start wondering about this game because we were doing a lot of things right. We prepare well for games and we’ve put in some really good performances of late. We did not deserve to lose three out of those four previous games.”

Despite losing four matches in succession before last night, Wimbledon had still not conceded many goals recently and Neal was particularly pleased with his side’s defending in South Wales.

“We came here and defended well because Ross did not have a save to make,” Neal added. “Then the ridiculous happens and you start thinking ‘here we go again’. I thought our back three, in particular, were excellent. There was not going to be much quality football played on that pitch, but we dug in, and Sammy Moore was immense in midfield.”
