George faces injury lay off

Young striker suffers injury in training

Neal Ardley has confirmed that George Oakley suffered a hamstring injury in training and he could miss the start of next season.

The young striker (pictured) had only recently returned to full training after illness and George is now likely to be out for a few weeks.

Speaking to Dons Player, Neal said: “We’ve had some bad news with George picking up a hamstring injury when we were doing some work on crossing and finishing in training yesterday (Friday). We are fearful that it could mean a few weeks out for George. He was ill for a while and it’s been a stuttering start to pre-season in terms of his physicality. We hope that it’s not too serious.”

However, Jake Nicholson is back in full training after shaking off a hamstring injury that has kept him out for two weeks.

Meanwhile, Neal said that the Dons will take an 18-man squad to Spain on Monday for a three-day training camp. Midfielder Sammy Moore will not make the trip to La Manga, Neal revealed.

“Sammy will stay behind because of an issue with his passport,” Neal said. “They never got that out to him in time so Sammy will play for 70 minutes for the Under-21s at Canvey Island on Tuesday.”
