Andy Clarke's exploits recalled as part of kit launch countdown
The club’s new Admiral kits will be launched on Sunday, 29 June and our countdown continues by remembering the first ever Wimbledon substitute – and a Dons striker who earned the tag of “super-sub."
12 – Something in reserve
Substitutes were not introduced until the start of the 1966/67 season, but initially only for injuries and not for tactical reasons. So it was a full 10 games into Wimbledon’s Southern League Premier Division campaign that Barry Cordjohn wrote himself into the Dons record books by becoming Wimbledon’s first ever substitute to make an appearance. Barry replaced Stuart Davies in the second- half of a goal-less away game at Cheltenham Town. In later years, Andy Clarke (pictured) would become the club’s very own specialist ‘super-sub’, making 70 Premier League appearances from the bench to unleash his pace on tiring defenders.
