Kit launch countdown recalls young Dons at their best
The club’s new Admiral kits will be launched on Sunday, 29 June and our countdown continues with a number that recalls a superb achievement from a crop of Dons youngsters.
Ray Armfield highlighted a highly impressive run for AFC Wimbledon’s Under-13s in a national competition that ended with glory at Pride Park – and many of that side have progressed through the ranks to the current Under-18s.
13 – Under-13s – 2010 English National Champions
AFC Wimbledon Under-13s crowned a superb season by winning the 2010 Tesco English National Cup Tournament at Derby County’s Pride Park stadium. It followed a 100 per cent Surrey Youth League Premier Elite campaign of 14 wins in as many matches, plus two cup successes. For the record, Wimbledon plundered victory margins of 19-2 at Whyteleafe and 10-1 at Hampton & Richmond. The AFC Wimbledon squad that season included seven players still currently with the club and they are as follows: Egli Kaja, Billy Bishop, Billy Frost (pictured), Callum Wilson, Danny Gallagher, Ryan Sweeney, Ben Harrison. Patrick Roberts, who last season made the breakthrough into Fulham’s first-team, was also in the squad. Current Academy Head of Coaching Mark Robinson coached the class of 2010 with Tony Wilson as manager.
