Kit launch countdown continues

The club’s new Admiral kits will be launched on Sunday, 29 June and we continue our countdown by remembering a time when the Dons were victims of their own success.

Manager Allen Batsford (pictured above) guided Wimbledon to a glorious 1974/75 season, but Ray Armfield recalled that success brought its own problems.

23 – Fixture pile-up

So successful was Wimbledon’s 1974/75 season, including an eight-match FA Cup run which began at Bracknell Town and ended in front of 46,000 at Selhurst Park against Leeds United, that Wimbledon had to squeeze 23 games into the last 56 days of the season. With a small squad, they still managed to secure their first Southern League championship and pick up the London Senior Cup for good measure. Those victories brushed aside the disappointment of an unlucky FA Trophy quarter final defeat at Scarborough, where victory would have put them within touching distance of the Wembley final that Allen Batsford’s team perhaps deserved.
