Kit launch countdown recalls a unique achievement

The club’s new Admiral kits will be launched this Sunday and our countdown continues by remembering another great achievement from Wimbledon’s all-time record goalscorer Eddie Reynolds.

4 – Four he’s a jolly good fellow

In 1963 a gangly centre forward called Eddie Reynolds indelibly wrote himself into the Wembley Stadium record books by scoring all four of his side’s goals with his head as Wimbledon defeated local rivals Sutton United 4-2 to lift the Amateur Cup for the first time. The prolific Irishman latched onto pinpoint crosses from Les Brown, Brian Martin, Geoff Hamm and Ted Murphy to leave BBC Radio commentator Raymond Glendenning purring: “Perfect timing, this man really is an amateur Tommy Lawton...he really is.”

Reynolds, who went onto strike over 300 goals for Wimbledon, finished the season with 57 goals – plus another 10 scored in the reserves after being dropped!

.Your AFC WimbledonIn association with Admiral Sportswear Limited, supporters will be able to see the club’s new home, away and third kits, along with training wear, for the first time, on 29 June, at Centre Court Shopping Centre. To view our previous announcement about this, click on
