AFC Wimbledon mascot joins in the fun

Haydon the Womble certainly made his mark at the Mail Online London Mascot Derby, but he encountered too many distractions in his bid to win the race!

.Mascot RaceA total of 17 mascots from all over London battled it out in front of a crowd of over 15,000 spectators at the NatWest T20 Blast clash between Surrey and Middlesex at the Kia Oval. A video of the event is available by clicking on

London’s football tribes came together as Chelsea teamed up with QPR and Fulham to form a South London team, West Ham and Leyton Orient also joined up, and Haydon represented AFC Wimbledon.

Although the race started with some order, it quickly degenerated into a WWE style brawl and Haydon’s pursuit of glory came a cropper as he stopped to steal a security guard’s chair and flung T-shirts into the crowd.

The unofficial award for best dancing was given to West Ham’s Hammerhead and his colleague Bubbles the Bear was awarded ‘Best Epic Fail’ for his aborted attempt to cross the finish line.

For what it’s worth, the sponsor’s – Mail Online – gave the victory to the South London team with Caesar the Lion successfully breaching the ‘MailOn-Finishing-Line’ to take the glory for the home side.
