An historic day recalled as part of kit launch countdown

The club’s new Admiral kits will be launched on Sunday, 29 June and our countdown continues by remembering a famous day in AFC Wimbledon’s history.

Perhaps the easiest selection in Ray Armfield’s varied compilation, it simply could not be left out as it confirmed Wimbledon’s remarkable rise through non league.

9 – It only took nine years!

Undoubtedly the most iconic number in AFC Wimbledon history, it was the chant that rang out loud and proud around Eastlands as the Dons secured a place in the Football League after a dramatic Blue Square Premier play-off final penalty shoot-out victory over Luton Town on 21 May 2011. It was the fifth and most crucial promotion in those nine seasons, for a club that began life amongst the hay bales of Sandhurst Town in the Combined Counties League in 2002. The club had now emerged to earn a place as a fully-fledged League 2 club thanks to another number nine – talismanic skipper Danny Kedwell (pictured with the play-off final trophy) who smashed home the winning spot kick.
