Defender's goals recalled in kit launch countdown

The club’s new Admiral kits will be launched on Sunday, 29 June and we continue the countdown with a number that recalls one of AFC Wimbledon’s early heroes.

Matt Everard (pictured above left being presented with the 2003/04 Player of the Year award by Dave Beasant) produced a remarkable goalscoring return for a defender in that season and his achievements quite rightly deserved a mention in Ray Armfield’s countdown.

24 – Matt finishes

A return of 24 goals from 58 matches in a season is a tally that most strikers would be proud of, but that’s what Matt Everard achieved playing in central defence!

Aside from being the outstanding pivot of the Dons back four, it was his prolific prowess at the other end of the pitch that caught the eye too. The two injury-time goals that sealed a 5-4 victory against Walton Casuals are still revered by Dons fans and THAT dramatic winner at Herne Bay in the FA Vase sent almost 1,800 travelling Dons fans into ecstasy. Matt also came up with another trademark header in the Premier Challenge Cup final against North Greenford United.

.Your AFC WimbledonIn association with Admiral Sportswear Limited, supporters will be able to see the club’s new home, away and third kits, along with training wear, for the first time, on 29 June, at Centre Court Shoping Centre. To view our previous announcement about this, click on
