A trio of Dons at France in 1998

The club’s new Admiral kits will be launched this Sunday and our countdown continues by remembering a trio of Wimbledon players who were chosen for World Cup squads 16 years ago.

3 – Three World Cup Wombles

The France 1998 World Cup Finals saw representation by Wimbledon players for the first time. Robbie Earle (pictured) and Marcus Gayle had enlisted to play for Jamaica and Earle fired home a fine equaliser for the “Reggae Boyz” in a 3-1 defeat against Croatia in their opening match. Marcus had to wait until the third and final game, but he was on the winning side as Jamaica beat Japan. Neil Sullivan, meanwhile, was a part of the Scotland squad, but he didn’t make it off the bench as the Tartan Army also made a brave exit at the group stage. Gayle and Sullivan, of course, would both go on to make appearances for AFC Wimbledon at the end of their respective careers.

.Your AFC WimbledonIn association with Admiral Sportswear Limited, supporters will be able to see the club’s new home, away and third kits, along with training wear, for the first time, on 29 June, at Centre Court Shopping Centre. To view our previous announcement about this, click on
