Cup run ended at quarter-final stage

AFC Wimbledon Ladies came up short in their bid for a last-four spot in the Surrey Women’s Cup as Carshalton Athletic proved too strong on the day.

The Dons had their impressive cup run ended at the quarter-final stage on Sunday with a 4-1 defeat after they had threatened to make a game of it through a goal from substitute Rhianne Connell.

Wimbledon had a mountain to climb in the second-half as they conceded two goals before half-time that effectively ended their chances with Curtis slotting home from the penalty spot and Ella Bale making it 4-1.

However, the Dons were a different team after the break and they came close on several occasions to reducing the arrears. Captain Louise Cooper (pictured) was just off target with a couple of long-range free-kicks, but Carshalton held firm and Wimbledon will now have to concentrate on improving their league position.
