Midfielder talks about making an instant impact
Jake Nicholson described his Wimbledon debut as an “unbelievable” experience after he scored in that remarkable spell of three goals in just over two minutes on Saturday.
However, Jake, (pictured above celebrating his goal against Cheltenham, photograph by Paul Willatts) says that the Dons cannot afford to rest on their laurels with Northampton away up next tomorrow night.
Speaking to Rob Cornell during an interview for Dons Player, the midfielder said: “The manager had been talking to us in the build-up about the ‘what if’ scenarios. If we went ahead or behind then it would be about how we reacted. We came back out for the second-half and had a go at Cheltenham. When we were 2-0 down we thought we could still do it. To score three goals in such a short space of time was unbelievable. I think that we definitely deserved to win the game because of our second-half performance.
“We had a little meeting on Friday and we said that there is definitely belief in the squad, but we have to go out on the pitch and show it. With the talent that we have in this squad I think we should be higher in the table, but that’s football.”
The 21-year-old midfielder also spoke about the challenge that lies ahead at Sixfields Stadium tomorrow night.
“We have to treat every game the same whether it’s against a top team or a side near the bottom,” Jake added. “We have momentum from this win, but the manager has said it’s a big week for us and we must go again. We have to refocus and get ourselves right for Tuesday at Northampton. It was a great win, but we have to put it behind us now and move onto the next game.”
