Countdown to kit launch

31 May 2014

Alan Cork's achievements remembered

The club’s new Admiral kits will be launched on Sunday, June 29, and we’ll be counting down the days by remembering key personalities and events in Wimbledon’s history.

Ray Armfield has kindly compiled a countdown to the big day, starting with number 29, and a man who became a true Wimbledon hero with his goals in all four divisions of English football.

29 – He’s got no hair but we don’t care!

Alan Cork put the broken leg sustained at Walsall a year previously behind him to score 29 Canon League Division Three goals in just 41 matches during 1983/84, a return which sent Wimbledon into the previously-uncharted waters of the second tier of English football. Surprisingly, his haul contained only one hat-trick – a treble in a 6-0 win over Newport County. That came in just the second game of the season, but his total was more than strike partners Glyn Hodges (15) and Stewart Evans (12) managed between them. Cork would go on to score in all four divisions playing an integral part in Wimbledon’s meteoric rise to the top flight.

.Your AFC WimbledonIn association with Admiral Sportswear Limited, supporters will be able to see the club’s new home, away and third kits, along with training wear, for the first time, on 29 June, at Centre Court Shopping Centre. To view our previous announcement about this, click on
