Neal's first summer recruit is former Oxford forward
Neal Ardley has today completed Wimbledon’s first signing this summer with the arrival of former Oxford United left winger Sean Rigg.
The 25-year-old (pictured left above) has made over 200 Football League appearances during spells with Bristol Rovers, Port Vale and Oxford, and is a player who Neal Ardley tracked for a considerable period of time.
During an interview for Dons Player, Neal revealed that he was quick to swoop for Sean’s signature as soon as his two-year stay at the Kassam Stadium came to an end.
“I have always liked him when Sean’s played against us and been impressed when I’ve watched him in games,” said Neal. “I contacted a few people that I trust at Oxford and the feedback I got was that they were stunned that he’d been released because he was one of their better players. That’s really positive. Sean works really hard, he’s quick and direct, and can score goals, which is obviously an area we are trying to improve upon.
“His biggest strength is running at defenders down the left side, but if we need to change things in games and throw someone up front then he can also do that too. He played up front during his time in the Conference with Forest Green and scored goals so it’s a very positive signing. I’m really confident that he will be a good signing.”
Sean started his career with Bristol Rovers and helped the club to promotion into League 1 via the play-offs in 2007. He has since spent his whole career in the Football League, apart from a loan spell at Forest Green when he scored six goals in 14 games.
Dons Player subscribers will be able to watch a full update from Neal Ardley on his summer recruitment plans soon, along with an in-depth interview with Sean.
