Sammy: we owe Dons fans

Midfielder assures fans there will be no let-up

Sammy Moore is determined to make amends for last Saturday’s defeat against Morecambe – and he says the players owe Wimbledon’s fans a big performance at Accrington tomorrow.

The midfielder (pictured), who joined the Dons in 2010, is eager to give Wimbledon’s travelling fans something to shout about at the end of a long season.

Speaking to Rob Cornell, Sammy said: “The fans here were one of the main reasons why I came to this club and there are no better supporters in this league. I think we took about 300 supporters up there last season. We owe the fans after last week and we will try to put that performance right. We will go there with a game plan that we’ve worked on all this week in training. We need to play in the same way as if we were fighting for our lives or going for the play-offs.

“If we go there with the right attitude and put into practice what we’ve been working on then there’s no reason why we cannot come away with three points. We were disappointed with the performance that we put in last season at Accrington. They work hard and don’t give you a moment’s peace on the ball and they will be hard to breakdown. But we need to produce a performance similar to what got us the points at Plymouth. We don’t want the season to just fizzle out and we want to end the season on a high.”

Sammy, who was Wimbledon’s Player of the Year two years ago, had special praise for the latest recipient of the honour, Barry Fuller, after the right-back’s excellent first season for the club.

“Barry has been outstanding all season,” added Sammy. “There was only going to be one person who was going to get the award and that was Barry. He works so hard every day in training. The manager often says that you play on a Saturday the way that you train and that sums up Barry. He has brought my game on too with a few new ideas and he’s great to have around the dressing room. I’m delighted for Barry and hopefully he can do the same again next season.”
