Dons swoop for defender

Millwall man signs on loan

AFC Wimbledon today bolstered the squad's defensive options by bringing in defender Jake Goodman on loan from Millwall.

The 21-year-old, who has had first-team experience at Luton Town and Aldershot, has joined on an emergency loan deal until 6 January.

Jake (pictured) has been drafted in with Andy Frampton still out injured and Neal Ardley said that Alan Bennett and Adam Barrett both missed training earlier this week after suffering knocks.

A towering defender, Jake has been on the fringes of The Lions first-team squad this season without making a senior appearance, but he has featured regularly for the U-21s.

Jake is expected to go straight into Wimbledon’s squad for the home match against Cambridge on Saturday and first-team coach Simon Bassey expects the young defender to cope well with League 2 football.

“We’ve watched Jake a lot during the last 18 months,” said Simon. “He has gained experience on loan with Aldershot and Luton and it will be good for him to step-up into league football. We needed to bring someone in to boost our defensive ranks and Jake is a big, physical defender who we feel will cope well with the demands of football at this level.”
