FA Cup joy for the Dons

19 November 2014

Player celebrations as the Dons march on

There was joy all around the Cherry Red Records Stadium last night as Wimbledon marched into the FA Cup second round and our picture gallery above shows what it meant to the players.

The above photograph shows Jack Smith and Matt Tubbs celebrating an all-important equaliser from the latter that finally ended York’s brave resistance.

Of course, then it was the turn of Tubbs to finish off the Minstermen and there’s a thumbs-up in our gallery from Wimbledon’s top scorer after his recent goals drought came to an end.

Manager Neal Ardley told Dons Player afterwards that he hopes Matt’s double will help him recapture his prolific form from earlier this season when he earned the League 2 Player of the Month award.

“I knew it would happen, but I hoped it would be sooner rather than later because Matt has been a very frustrated figure,” said Neal. “He’s been a bit down and he lives to score goals. Though he did brilliant for his second goal, I thought his first was typical Matt Tubbs. He pulled off the centre-back and got his shot off into the bottom corner. It’s great because two goals have come in the same game for him and hopefully it sparks off a run similar to what he had at the start of the season.”

The full post-match reaction with Neal Ardley can be viewed on Dons Player and an interview with Jack Smith will appear later.
