Frampton makes progress

Defender could be back in the frame next week

Andy Frampton could be back in training as early as next week with the defender having made good progress since being injured in the FA Cup tie at York City.

Though Frampton (pictured) will not return for Saturday’s game against Dagenham & Redbridge, Neal Ardley said the signs are that he is recovering well from the ankle injury.

Speaking during an interview with Rob Cornell for Dons Player, Neal Ardley said: “It is early days, but the injury has settled down quite quickly and we are hoping he might be able to train before the end of next week. If we can get him back training next week then he could be available for selection. Sometimes it never works out the way you want it to, but we will continue to monitor him and we are hopeful.”

Neal also updated us on fellow centre-back Will Nightingale’s progress after he suffered an ankle injury playing for the Under-21s recently.

“Will is still a little bit sore, but he is hoping to get back training next week,” added Neal. “Mark Phillips needed to get games after fracturing his toe so it was the right decision to let him go out on loan to Aldershot again. With Will getting injured and now Andy we’re a little bit light at the back. We are looking at whether we need to bring anyone else in or not and we will try and make that judgement in the next day or so.”

Dons Player subscribers will be able to watch interviews with Neal Ardley and Bayo Akinfenwa later today.
