Sean: best yet to come

Dons winger ahead of Cheltenham

Sean Rigg believes there’s plenty more to come from him in a Dons shirt after an encouraging start to his AFC Wimbledon career.

Despite chipping in with two goals so far, Rigg reckons he’s capable of better and the former Oxford United winger is determined to get more goals and assists.

Speaking during an interview for Dons Player, Rigg said: “I’m really enjoying my time with Wimbledon so far. During the latter part of last season at Oxford a new manager came in and that totally put me out of the picture. That was disappointing, but since coming here Neal Ardley has shown belief in me. It’s been great so far and hopefully I can stay here for a few years. I’ve played in every game so I’m thankful for that. I’m enjoying my football, but I think that I’ve got more to show. I’m looking forward to the rest of this season.

“Though I’ve got two goals so far, I think I should have scored a few more. Hopefully, I can get back on the score sheet again as soon as possible and get more assists. We need to be aware of the weaknesses of opponents and if I need to get out wide and get crosses in then I can do that. However, if I’m required to come inside and play behind the front two then I’m also happy doing that. Other players have to chip in with more goals apart from Matt Tubbs and Bayo Akinfenwa and that includes me.”

The Dons take on Cheltenham Town tomorrow and Sean Rigg is in a positive frame of mind about going to Whaddon Road after good memories of the venue in recent years.

“It’s a small pitch there, but they look after the surface and I’ve enjoyed playing at Cheltenham in the past,” added Rigg. “I’ve had a couple of wins at Cheltenham and hopefully we can go there and get three points on Saturday.

“In this league you can beat the top two and then lose to the bottom two so you never know what’s going to happen. We just need to find that consistency and if we can get a couple of wins soon then we will be right up there.”
