Wembley treat for U-18s

Young Dons at the scene of 1988 glory

AFC Wimbledon Under-18s swapped the classroom for Wembley on Wednesday afternoon to enjoy an inspirational tour of the famous stadium.

.You TubeManager Mark Robinson was quick to remind his squad about Wimbledon’s 1988 glory at the same venue and they all had their pictures taken with a replica of the FA Cup. A gallery of pictures from the day can be viewed above and a video of the day can be viewed by clicking on

It certainly made for a different Wednesday for the Under-18s as Wednesday afternoons are usually devoted to studies at South Thames College (Merton Campus) in Morden.

However, Mark Robinson used his connections to arrange a VIP tour of Wembley’s facilities, which including checking out the dressing rooms, press facilities, walking out from the tunnel area, and climbing the famous steps towards the FA Cup.

Mark Robinson said: “A lot of the lads in our squad have been with us for a long time and I wanted to give them a reminder of Wimbledon’s incredible achievement from 1988. The boys would normally have college on a Wednesday afternoon, but I’m always keen to do something different every now and then. This is educational because the boys have taken a lot of information in and hopefully this will inspire them.”

Mark Robinson wished to thank Wembley Tours Manager Adam Burrage and Tour Guide Chris Gibbons for arranging the Wembley Tour. As a thank-you for their generosity, Adam and Chris have been presented with AFC Wimbledon shirts with their respective names on the back.
