Andy a doubt for Newport

25 September 2014

An update from the Wimbledon manager

Neal Ardley said that Andy Frampton has today suffered an unfortunate setback and he is doubtful for the match at Newport on Saturday.

The experienced centre-back (pictured) was back in Wimbledon’s squad against Morecambe after recovering from an ankle injury, but Frampton could miss the trip to South Wales.

Speaking to Dons Player, Neal Ardley confirmed: “Andy suffered a bit of a mishap when he was walking to the training ground today. He trod on an uneven bit of ground and really felt his ankle. He is very upset and he will probably be a doubt for Saturday.”

Of course, top goalscorer Matt Tubbs will be back in contention for Saturday after serving his one-match suspension for being sent off against Burton Albion.

There was also good news as regards Jake Nicholson’s fitness though as Neal Ardley expects to have the midfielder in his squad for Newport after his appearance for the Under-21s on Tuesday.

“Jake came off as a precaution as he took a whack on the knee, but he should be ready to be in the squad on Saturday,” Neal added. “He has had a recovery day to get himself right. I saw a lot of good quality from the young players on Tuesday, but Jake stood out for the 60 minutes that he was on. He had a really good game and we have competition for places.”

The Wimbledon manager is expecting a very tough game at Newport as they had gone six matches unbeaten before they lost to Swindon Town in the JPT on Tuesday night.

“It will be tough because Justin Edinburgh and Jimmy Dack have done a good job there,” said Neal. “There are no easy games in this league, but they are one of those teams that you will find yourself behind against if you are not on it. They put a lot of pressure on and we will have to be ready for that. It’s easy talking about stopping that, but it’s harder to do. If we get through those spells then I’m sure we will be a threat at the other end.”
