College Academy up and running for the season

AFC Wimbledon’s college academy team got off the mark for season 2014/15 with a hard-fought win against Corinthian Casuals yesterday.

Duane Williams struck the only goal to earn a 1-0 win that secured Wimbledon’s first points this season in the Football Conference Youth League Southern Premier Division.

Six players were signed just before the start of 2014/15 after impressing Hamilton in trials with Cian Wright, Christopher Loppas, Julius Makuna, Alyes Benzahi, Musa Sillah and Lewis Boayke all joining the squad. Head of the College Academy, Michael Hamilton, has put together a new-look squad and they were narrowly beaten 3-2 in their opening match by Whyteleafe.

Michael Hamilton said: “I thought it was a worthy victory and it’s a good thing mentally to get the first win. We have a lot of work to do though to reach the high standards I expect from the squad. Corinthians came out of the blocks quickly and I was impressed with how we dealt with that in the first 10 minutes. We got back in numbers, restricted space and we showed the composure and patience we had worked on in training.

Day by day we are improving but we need to progress quicker if we are to make an impact this season.” “After that we created a lot of problems for ourselves by not doing the basics and it became an even game.
