Striker aims to repay fans for support

Matt Tubbs said he has thoroughly enjoyed his time at AFC Wimbledon so far – and he hopes to reward Dons fans for their support at Carlisle United tomorrow.

The experienced striker has banged in the goals since arriving on loan from AFC Bournemouth and his prolific form earned the Sky Bet League 2 award for August.

Speaking during an interview with Rob Cornell for Dons Player, Tubbs said: “The first month of the season was brilliant for me and to start September the way we did on Tuesday in the JPT was fantastic. The manager is kind to us as players; he knows when to work us hard and when we need a rest. As long as that continues for the rest of this season then hopefully we will all be happy.

“Carlisle is a long way for our supporters to go and to pay money out of their own pockets. For them to come and support us will be brilliant and hopefully we can put on a good performance for them. Carlisle lost last weekend and got rid of their manager, but they won during the week. If we stick to our game plan then we will be okay. We need to go there and impose ourselves on the game.”

Tubbs selected his winner at Kenilworth Road in August, a goal that stunned newly promoted Luton Town in their first home league match since promotion, as his favourite goal – and he revealed there was extra motivation to silence the Hatters.

“James Shea kicked it long and Bayo Akinfenwa flicked it on, before I managed to get a touch and then volley it into the top corner,” Tubbs recalled. “That was my favourite goal and also because I was on trial at Luton as a kid and they refused me - it was nice to get the winner.”
