Young striker back in full training

George Oakley has returned to full training after almost two months out with Wimbledon’s medical team having nursed the young striker back gradually.

Speaking during an interview for Dons Player, Neal Ardley said George’s return had been carefully handled and the Wimbledon manager also had an update about Jack Smith’s progress from a knee injury.

“We had a process that we had to go through with George,” said Neal. “It was a bad hamstring injury, a grade one tear, and we have taken our time with him. We had to make sure he could trust his hamstring again. George has been back in full training this week and he’s worked really hard on his fitness with the first-team. We are going to try and arrange an in-house game for George and Jack next week. We can hopefully get both of them onto the next level in terms of fitness and they will provide two more options for us.”

Oakley signed his first professional contract with Wimbledon in April after scoring plenty of goals during his rise through the ranks.
