Dons striker scoops Sky Bet League 2 award

Matt Tubbs has been rewarded for his superb start at AFC Wimbledon with the Sky Bet League 2 Player of the Month award for August.

The striker hit top form straight away after joining the Dons with five goals in all competitions during August.

Tubbs showed a finishing ability that earned plenty of admiration from the Sky Bet judging panel.

Sky Sports’ Football League pundit Don Goodman said: “Matt’s goal-scoring prowess has set him apart already. Four goals in five league games is a fantastic return.”

Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery said: “Tubbs is proving to be a great signing and he has firmed up in the Sky Bet League 2 Top scorer betting. He was as big as 16/1 before the season. Tubbs is now the red-hot favourite at 13/2 to take the golden boot.”

Dons manager Neal Ardley praised the early season contribution of his experienced striker.

Matt has been involved in six out of our seven league goals and that tells you how well he has done. He’s probably had the best of our chances apart from his goals so he could be in double figures. That gives you an indication of how much quality he has got and how good a start to the season Matt has had.” “The award is thoroughly deserved,” said Neal. “I do statistics on all the games, including what positions we score from and who is involved in the build-up and assists.

The Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month Award went to Charlton Athletic striker Igor Vetokele. In Sky Bet League 1, Barnsley’s Conor Hourihane was named Sky Bet Player of the Month.

The Sky Bet Player of the Month judging panel comprises Sky Sports’ Football League expert Don Goodman, Football League Head of Communications John Nagle, League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon, and Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery.
