Dons Player interview with striker

Bayo Akinfenwa told Dons Player he was delighted to reward AFC Wimbledon’s “immense” support by playing a vital part in yesterday’s dramatic win at Crawley.

Speaking during an interview with WDON’s Rob Cornell, Bayo was quick to thank Wimbledon’s 1,297 travelling army for staying with the team.

“The fans were immense and it felt like a home game,” said Bayo. “When we did not start well and went a goal down I did not hear any booing. They stayed with us and when we got the first goal we fed off their energy and positivity. It is very important as players for the fans to not get on our backs. That helps so much. I have major love to the fans because their support really helps.

“We are not a team that can just be slow and play casually. There were not enough dynamic runs in the first half, but we came out like beasts in the second half! The manager had some real choice words to say at half time and we responded. In the second half we showed what we were all about.

“Andy Barcham worked wonders to stand the ball up for me and my eyes lit up to get that first goal. We went on from there and after that there only looked like being one winner. I am glad that “The Whip” came out. It took me nine games to score last season so I am much happier to get off the mark after three games.”

Andy Barcham’s dynamic contribution to the victory far from surprised Bayo, who knows all about what the flying winger can produce at his best.

“I played with ‘Barchy’ at Gillingham so I know the ability that he possesses. Not many defenders like to play against him. When he is on song he is one of the best in the league, if not the league above. We saw that in pre-season and in the games that he has played since the season started. I was happy for him to get his goal. We have got to rest up though because we have another big game on Tuesday night.”

Post-match reaction from Bayo, Andy Barcham and Neal Ardley are all now on Dons Player, along with match highlights from Crawley.
