Bittersweet award for Andy

Interviews and highlights on our premium channel

Andy Barcham told Dons Player that his man of the match award on his competitive debut offered little consolation for him after defeat to Plymouth Argyle yesterday.

The speedy wide man (pictured in action above) offered plenty of cutting edge on the left, particularly during a first-half that Wimbledon dominated, and his display earned the sponsor's man of the match accolade.

However, Barcham was quick to look forward to a packed schedule of matches which offer an opportunity to make amends for the Dons.

Speaking during an interview with WDON commentator Rob Cornell, Barcham said: “I would have preferred the three points and it was disappointing because we had a great start. For the first 20 minutes they couldn’t get a kick and we were all over them. Unfortunately for us, we did not put the ball in the net. They managed to hang on in there and it was always going to be difficult after they scored.

“We can take heart from the performance in the first half, but we have to try and prolong it for a longer period. I like to get forward and get at players and that is my game. I have no doubt we will watch a video of the game and look at the good and bad bits. We want to try and learn from our mistakes.

“The good thing about the start to a season is that there are so many games coming up. There is going to be a chance to put it right. We will go again with matches on Tuesday and Saturday and aim to get the results we want.”

Dons Player features the full interview with Andy Barcham, along with the thoughts of George Francomb, Neal Ardley’s post-match reaction and highlights of Dons v Plymouth.
