"Back in Two Ticks" initiative starts Saturday
The Dons Trust, owners of AFC Wimbledon, is gearing up towards a substantial next step in the hoped-for move to a new stadium, back in the club’s home borough of Merton.
The ‘Back in Two Ticks’ campaign, so called to reflect the fact that two separate votes are needed to agree to the sale of the club’s current stadium, explains the voting process and the briefing materials and the meetings will take place over the coming months.
Board members of the Trust and Football Club, supported by other volunteers, will be spreading the word about this campaign at Saturday’s match against Exeter City, with leaflets distributed to supporters, and players wearing “Back in Two Ticks” T-shirts during the pre-match warm-up.
As the ultimate owners of the club, members of the Dons Trust must give their consent if the board is to proceed with specified major changes (defined as ‘Restricted Actions’ in the Trust’s constitution) that affect the security, identity or ownership of the club.
Although Merton Council has not yet made a decision on the club’s planning application for a new stadium, the campaign is starting now so as to take account of the time needed to brief members and hold the two meetings necessary to authorise the sale of the stadium.
Dons Trust chairman Matthew Breach said: “We are taking nothing for granted by launching now. We simply want to get all our authorities in place so that, when we’ve met all the conditions for the sale to go ahead, including planning permission of course, we are fully ready to proceed with the sale, secure in the knowledge that our members support it.”
Information on the proposals and the voting process will be sent to every Dons Trust member in the middle of September. Members (including Junior Dons) can also attend a meeting on 22 or 24 September to discuss the proposals.
As part of the above push for the Exeter game, the Dons Trust are looking for a dozen volunteers to help with leafleting and promotion before the match.
