A Dons year in pictures

31 December 2015

Your best photographs of 2015

A great response to our appeal for your best pictures of 2015 suggests it was a year to remember for many of you – and let’s hope it’s a successful 2016 for all Dons out there!

Plenty of images in our gallery above show Wimbledon supporters posing for pictures with players, including the above photograph of young Dons fan Eva with Bayo Akinfenwa.

Posted by @Ross1982 on Twitter, the message read: “Eva’s best moment from this year @AFCWimbledon was meeting @daRealAkinfenwa v Notts County when The Beast popped up with the winner!”

The year started with FA Cup fever at AFC Wimbledon with Liverpool visiting for a third round tie. One of our special guests on the night was Darren Clarke and Dons fan Beverley Balchin is pictured with the popular Irish golfer. Our kit man @Rocket1job also posted a picture with Steven Gerrard’s number eight jersey after the Liverpool hero scored both goals.

Look out in the gallery too for a picture of Dons favourite Marcus Gayle, who joined in a football game with @fletchwomble. He posted on Twitter with the message: “My football highlight of the year was my stag party with Marcus Gayle.”

Former Wimbledon captain Alan Bennett waved an emotional goodbye to supporters earlier in the year. A picture of Alan on the day of his departure with @Smith12_adam is in our gallery and @cerysholliday said her best moment of 2015 was getting @ABenno15’s signed shirt.

Bristol-based Wimbledon fan Ben Thefaut took his son Fred to watch the Dons win 2-0 at Exeter on Monday. It was extra special for his son as he had not seen AFC Wimbledon score in five previous visits to watch them. Fred described it as “the biggest adrenaline rush ever” after finally watching the Dons win.

Ben added: “Thanks to the boys Fred is now fully converted to AFC Wimbledon! He has requested the third kit for his Birthday and your West Country fan base thrives!”

Ben and Fred are pictured with Ivor Heller after the Exeter game on Monday.

Francesco from Italy is also proud to support Wimbledon and he e-mailed in with a classic Dons shirt surrounded by old videos, including one of 1988 FA Cup glory. "This is my Italian faith for Wimbledon" he wrote.

A picture of the Eric Morecambe statue with a Dons scarf was sent in by @Dons_Sayer_WDON. It was sent in via Twitter with the message "Nice one of Eric - or should that be "Nice one Erik" in reference to the great news about the club moving to a new stadium back in Plough Lane.
