Deji relishes busy spell

Defender on facing his old club Newport

Deji Oshilaja says he has seen enough already to believe that AFC Wimbledon’s squad is good enough to come through a tough run of fixtures during February.

Deji, who has made four first-team appearances since joining the Dons on loan from Cardiff in January, comes up against his old club Newport tomorrow.

It’s a match that starts a hectic run of fixtures with a trip to Burton Albion on Tuesday night, but Deji believes that the Dons can cope.

Speaking during an interview with Rob Cornell for Dons Player, Deji said: “I believe we can push up the table with the squad that is here. We have a busy spell coming up now and it’s a chance to pick up points and build some momentum. It takes time to get to know each other when there are new players in a squad, but we’ve started to pick up points recently.

“Newport was the first loan move that I had. I enjoyed my time there because we did really well, but I’m just concentrating on Wimbledon now. I believe that we can compete with the best in this league.

“Neal Ardley’s standards will never drop. He will do everything in his power to get the best out of his players and it was the same when he was Cardiff Academy Manager. I’m enjoying my time here because it’s a very good set-up.”

Deji has formed a young partnership at the back with Will Nightingale in recent weeks and he believes that it’s improving all the time.

“After Jake got injured Will has stepped up brilliantly,” added Deji. “We have a good understanding and cover well for each other when we need to. I feel that we are getting better all of the time. Will is not feeling any pressure for one so young. He just gets out there and plays and all the fans can see that he is doing very well.”
