Neal Ardley selects great winner as club's entry

A brilliant winner from Kevin Sainte-Luce has been selected as AFC Wimbledon’s best goal of 2014.

We asked supporters to nominate their favourite goals of last year via social media so that we could put together a shortlist of five for Neal Ardley to choose from.

The Wimbledon manager selected Sainte-Luce’s dramatic winner at Newport in February, 2014, as his choice and this will now be our club entry for the Mitre Goal of the Year.

Neal Ardley said: “Kevin picked the ball up on the left hand side before dribbling past two or three players and lashing it into the roof of the net late on in the game. It came on the back of a run of four defeats on the run. We put in a very good performance, but we fell behind to a goal out of nothing. Charlie Sheringham came on and equalised and for Kevin Sainte-Luce to produce that bit of magic at such a vital time puts that at the top of the list.”

Kevin, who joined Gateshead last month, was at his best in the celebrations that followed too as his trademark somersaults summed up Wimbledon’s late joy in Wales.

Our entry was chosen from Football League competition during the calendar year, including the Sky Bet Football League, the Capital One Cup and the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
