Young Reading forward joins on loan

Neal Ardley has today strengthened his attacking options by bringing in Reading striker Craig Tanner on a youth loan until the end of this season.

The 20-year-old forward (pictured right above) has made five first-team appearances for Reading this season and he scored in a Capital One Cup tie against Newport County in August.

Craig’s progression was interrupted by a knee injury, but he’s made an impressive comeback at Under-21 level and was recalled to the first-team squad during the Christmas period.

Neal Ardley said that Craig is a player the club has tracked over a lengthy period of time and reports suggest that he’s an exciting talent.

“This is when your recruitment list comes into its own,” said the Wimbledon manager. “Last season we covered 250 games and during this campaign so far we’ve covered around half that number. After speaking to our scouts that cover games for us and looking at the reports again, there was one player who kept coming up and that was Craig.

“According to those reports he is one of the best young talents around. We look at different types of players and a young lad is always going to be a bit of a gamble at League 2 level. However, with the qualities and talent that Craig has, we believe he could be an exciting player who can cope with the demands at this level.”

Craig has progressed right through the youth ranks up to senior level at Reading and he marked his first-team debut with a goal after coming off the bench against Newport on 12 August, 2014.
