Clarke will wear blue and yellow in the Open if Dons win
Liverpool fan Darren Clarke is so confident that his beloved Reds will beat AFC Wimbledon that he’s willing to wear a Dons-inspired outfit at the Open Championship this summer if his prediction is wrong.
However, the Northern Irishman isn’t satisfied with just taking in the action from the Your Golf Travel stand and he’s delighted to accept a challenge issued by Your Golf Travel co-founder Andrew Harding. The 2011 Open Champion (pictured left above with Commercial Director Ivor Heller) will be in attendance at the Cherry Red Records Stadium for tonight’s match.
If the Dons win then the famous blue and yellow of AFC Wimbledon will be the basis for a striking top-to-toe get-up that Clarke will wear during the Open Championship at St Andrews in July.
And the ever-optimistic Harding, an avid AFC Wimbledon fan, believes the Dons have got the muscle to do just that.
“We’re in good form after a big win against Exeter and we’ll have Adebayo "The Beast" Akinfenwa leading the line. Darren tells me he’s not worried, but I think we have a real chance not only to take a big scalp, but to see him striding the fairways of the Old Course in my beloved blue and yellow.”
Clarke doesn’t give Harding and Neal Ardley’s boys much hope.
“It could be a cold, wet night down there but I’m confident that we’ll be able to pass it around them,” said Clarke. “Besides, I look pretty great in blue and yellow anyhow!!”
