Neal versus Gareth video highlights progress made

AFC Wimbledon set-up tomorrow’s dream cup tie against Liverpool by knocking out League 2 leaders Wycombe and a video billed as ‘Neal versus Gareth” features on our You Tube channel.

Produced by FA TV, the video features interviews with Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth – a former Don – and his old team-mate Neal Ardley as they prepared for another managerial head-to-head.

Of course, the Dons beat York City 3-1 after a replay in the first round of the FA Cup, but Neal Ardley spoke passionately about how far AFC Wimbledon had come as a club since 2002 to earn tomorrow night’s prestigious tie against Liverpool.

“To get to the third round of the FA Cup for a club like us is absolutely immense,” said Neal. “For over 12 years people have worked hard to get this club where it is. I desperately wanted to get them into the FA Cup third round. I really hope that we get a glamour tie; one that puts us on the map, helps financially, and gives everyone something to look forward to in January.”

That’s exactly what happened and Gareth Ainsworth will be willing on his old club against Liverpool.

“Wimbledon gave me another chance in the Premier League in the late 1990s,” said Gareth. “The Crazy Gang was in full swing and Neal Ardley was a big part of that. We have a good relationship and are still good friends now.”
