Jake leaves the Dons

Midfielder departs as part of January review

Jake Nicholson has today had his contract at AFC Wimbledon cancelled by mutual consent as Neal Ardley continues to restructure the squad during January.

The 22-year-old midfielder made five starts and four substitute appearances after arriving at AFC Wimbledon last February, but his opportunities have been limited recently.

Neal Ardley said: “It’s very common at clubs at this stage of the season for players out of contract in the summer to worry about their futures and a lack of game-time. During a meeting as part of our half season reviews with players this was discussed and Jake asked if he could move on. The club decided to facilitate this as we aim to press on with other transfer targets in January. There will be more signings and we are doing work on these behind the scenes.”

Jake scored one goal in his nine appearances for the club and that came in the 4-3 win against Cheltenham in March.

Meanwhile, Neal Ardley has also confirmed that Frankie Sutherland has returned to QPR after the expiration of his loan deal. Frankie made 10 appearances in total for AFC Wimbledon with his brilliant goal at Portsmouth as the undoubted highlight.

All at the club wish to thank both Jake and Frankie for their contributions at AFC Wimbledon.
