Midfielder urged to finish season strongly

Neil Cox has challenged Tom Beere to force his way into the Wimbledon side during the rest of this season after he signed a new deal.

The 20-year-old would undoubtedly have made more first-team appearances this season, but he has endured an injury-hit campaign.

However, the Dons academy product (pictured) showed his midfield qualities with an impressive substitute appearance against Portsmouth on the same day that he committed his future to Wimbledon.

Speaking ahead of today’s match at Tranmere Rovers, Neil Cox said: “Tom has had a stop, start season due to injuries. We are happy that he has signed a new contract because he has progressed through the ranks. We are looking to bring players through.

“Tom is in the squad and he should be looking to start now. We could do with him being fit until the end of the season to put people under pressure. We want 16/17 players to be fit with places up for grabs.”

For those Wimbledon fans not travelling to the match at Prenton Park today, our WDON team will be commentating live from Tranmere via Dons Player.
