Dons sealed Manchester trip in style
It all came together in spectacular style on that memorable night four years ago when Terry Brown’s men destroyed the “Cod Army” to bring promotion a step closer.
On 11 May, 2011, the Dons marched into the Conference Play-Off Final – and just one game away from reclaiming their rightful place back in the Football League – with an epic 6-1 win against Fleetwood Town.
AFC Wimbledon held a 2-0 lead from the first leg at Fleetwood, but any nerves around the Cherry Red Records Stadium from the home faithful were extinguished after 27 seconds when Kaid Mohamed struck the opener.
Mohamed (pictured left above) went onto seal a hat-trick with Danny Kedwell (right in above picture) also on target and the other goals came from Christian Jolley and James Mulley.
The 8-1 aggregate win meant that Wimbledon's glory tilt at Manchester was just 10 days away and manager Terry Brown was unsurprisingly in confident mood after watching his side dismantle Fleetwood.
“I will tell the Luton manager now that there will not be any changes,” said Terry. “We will go into it in the best form I can remember this team, or any other team I have ever had, being in. We go into it in such confident fashion and, although people will say we have played Luton twice this season and not won, it is not the same squad that will play next week. There is just something about being on a roll.”
The Dons side that beat Fleetwood was as follows: Seb Brown, Sam Hatton, Gareth Gwillim (Ismail Yakubu), Steven Gregory, Jamie Stuart, Brett Johnson, Rashid Yussuff, Ricky Wellard, Danny Kedwell (James Mulley), Kaid Mohamed, Luke Moore (Christian Jolley).
