Open letter from DT Chair

9 October 2015

Important message about the "Back in Two Ticks" campaign

With less than two weeks to go before the end of the first round of voting on the sale of our stadium, Dons Trust Chair Matthew Breach has written an open letter to all members of the Dons Trust, which we have published below.

Dear Dons Trust member,

I wrote to you on 28 September, urging you to play your part in the first round of voting on the Restricted Action authorising the board to sell Kingsmeadow as part of AFC Wimbledon’s move back to Merton.

Thank you to those who have already done so. Many of you have already completed and returned forms appointing proxies to vote on your behalf at the SGM on 22 October.

All of the remainder will have been sent out by today – thank you for your patience. I know a small number of you have had to wait a little longer to receive your voting invitations.

So, please, make sure you use your vote.  We must not be complacent and take the result for granted. With less than two weeks until the SGM, our task now is to make sure all our members vote. It is hugely important to us that, in a supporters’ trust established on democratic principles, we should get a very high turnout in such a significant decision.

If you have received an email inviting you to cast your vote via Survey Monkey, then you can use the link (a blue button at the bottom of the email) to cast your proxy vote online. For those of you who do not intend to attend the SGM, you have until 20 October to return your proxy to us.

to print off and return to us.formAlternatively, you can find a proxy

You should either appoint the Chair of the meeting or check with whoever you would prefer to appoint that they are intending to attend the SGM and are not already voting on behalf of three other members.  The vast majority of people appoint the Chair of the meeting as their proxy, although other individuals can act as proxy on behalf of up to three members.  In using your online / postal vote, what you are actually doing is appointing someone (known as a proxy) to vote on your behalf at the meeting.  To clarify, votes can only be cast in person at the SGM on 22 October. We know that some members have not been clear on the proxy process.

There is nothing to stop you coming to the SGM even if you have appointed a proxy to vote on your behalf, and this will also be an opportunity to quiz the board on a broad range of issues.  If you do not exercise your vote via proxy, then the only way to cast your vote is to come along to the SGM on 22 October.  This weekend would be a good time to get that out of the way. Our recommendation is that members cast their proxy votes in advance of the meeting, and as soon as possible.

Otherwise AFC Wimbledon will not be able to develop a new stadium at Plough Lane in Merton, as the club will not have the funds needed to do so. The Dons Trust Board recommends that members cast their votes in favour of authorising the board to permit the sale of Kingsmeadow.

Please make sure that you vote in the second round of voting too. Finally, assuming that the first vote is successful, then the second round of voting will be launched very shortly after the SGM on 22 October.

Matthew Breach
