After discussions with the club`s CEO Erik Samuelson, Mr Kamall said: "Wimbledon are an ambitious club with ambitious ideas and I want to see them become the club they can be."

AFC Wimbledon have put forward plans for a stadium in Plough Lane. The proposals are currently going through a consultation.

"I want to see Wimbledon back in its spiritual home with a stadium which reflects the enthusiasm and passion of the fans," added Mr Kamall. “Of course, where local residents and councillors have concerns they need to be addressed, but AFC Wimbledon is a club born from the grassroots and gives so much back to its community.

“Like most people who live in South West London, we've followed the clubs fortunes and we're proud to have it here and thriving and want to help it. If I become Mayor I`ll certainly be putting my support behind the club whatever plans are finally agreed.”
