Manager assesses options after injury to Will
Neal Ardley said that he has already started putting together a list of potential defensive targets after an injury lay-off for Will Nightingale was confirmed.
However, the Wimbledon manager will not be rushed into a possible loan signing and it could depend upon if 18-year-old Ryan Sweeney is called-up for international duty by Republic of Ireland.
Speaking during an interview for Dons Player, Neal Ardley said: “Ryan has only recently come back from being out himself with a broken nose and he has only played two Under-21 games. We pulled him out of the Luton game because we needed him around the first-team squad. Ryan has been in the Republic of Ireland Under-19 squad and I am sure that will continue.
“If it does then we could lose Ryan potentially around game-time. That causes us a problem in the centre-back area. It is one that I have to monitor and look at, but it is not something I am going to rush into. As soon as Will got injured on Saturday we started drawing up our list and having a look in case we do need to go into that. For the moment we have Paul Robinson, Karleigh Osborne and Ryan, but obviously there may be a problem with Ryan and his international duty.”
A full seven-minute update from Neal Ardley is now on Dons Player, along with an interview with Jon Meades.
