Support the stadium bid

14 September 2015

'Local' fans urged to participate in latest stadium consultation

As part of the club’s aim for a return back to its spiritual home in Merton, Bring the Dons Home has asked us to publish an appeal on the official website and this is published below.

is urging supporters living in SW17, SW18 and SW19 to restate their support for our proposed new stadium in Plough Lane.Bring the Dons Home

Their call comes at the start of a second round of public consultation to gauge the views of local residents. This consultation follows additional information and changes made to the plans following detailed discussions between council planners and the club.

The extensive additional submission includes the following:

• Further information and analysis on a range of topics including flood risk, transport and design

• A change to the design of the stadium to enliven the pedestrian street which runs from north to south across the site, opening up the east stand for a cafeteria area and a childcare facility.

The one change to the stadium design should be welcomed by all because it will provide childcare facilities for the occupants of the apartments and make the pedestrian street an attractive venue. Bring The Dons Home Spokesman Charlie Talbot said: "The additional information reflects the care and thought that has gone into the application.

“Despite this, we expect that some opposition will be voiced and so it's more important than ever that Dons fans living near the stadium, i.e. in SW17, 18 and 19, give the council positive feedback.

"Wimbledon fans in those postcodes should e-mail or write to the council saying simply that they've studied the changes and remain in favour of the stadium being built."

The consultation closes on 8 October, 2015. The planning application reference '14/P4361' must be quoted. Letters should be sent to: Sabah Halli, Development Control, London Borough of Merton, Merton Civic Centre, London Road, Morden SM4 5DX.
